Although our main focus is always on helping local businesses advertise (get in touch on Facebook if you’d like us to do this for you), we also like to share good news about local people doing good in the world!
Last week, we were told about the amazing Jessicca Pulman-Jones. Jessicca is a freelance makeup artist and microblading specialist based in Merthyr Tydfil. In November Jessicca created and launched Totally Lashed Up, a cruelty free reusable eyelash brand, available online.
In November, Jessicca met a representative from the charity Care for Uganda. The representative asked Jessicca for bra donations, as just owning a bra in some parts of Uganda can protect women from sexual assault and rape.
Now fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. Christmas and New Year are out of the way, so now would be the perfect time to start collecting bras.
Jessicca put a poster out on Facebook requesting the bras of all her friends and followers.
With the help of local community centres, local businesses, friends and family and other people who shared her poster on Facebook…
She managed to collect an amazing 570 bras.
These bras are now going to be sent to Uganda in February. These bras will have a very positive impact on the health, well being and safety of the women in the Bbowa Community in Uganda.
In Jessicca’s own words…
“Why did I do it?
I’m lucky enough to have loads of wonderful female customers, and I learn so much from listening to their stories.
Many of my customers are foster carers who’s reasons for providing that life changing support are pretty simple….’if you can, you should’
I try to embrace that mindset as much as possible. I’m also a huge believer in the universe putting you in the right place, at the right time, with the right people.
It’s that simple really…I had bras to spare, I knew others would too…so I just asked ….the universe worked it’s magic”
Massive well done to Jessicca and the people who helped her.
